My sister is moving soon-ish and is slowly but surely selling her comic collection. She's posted a list of batman comics, so I thought I'd repost since some of you are into comics as well :)

The show's over! Thanks to all who came out :) I know some of you weren't thrilled with the modern genre, but I really love it.

I got some helpful feedback (and a lot of compliments) on my piece from my peers and teachers, so my first try at choreography was a success.

What Privilege Do You Have?

In the group exercise which was originally designed for college students, staff and faculty, everyone stands in a line and steps forward if any of these things are true for them.

If we were all in a big room, I would have taken 13 steps forward. How about you? How many would you have taken? How many steps will your kids have taken by the time they're 18?

Notice that each of these are things that were given to you or provided for you rather than things you necessarily earned yourself. The exercise instructions note that just because you've taken a lot of steps doesn't mean that you haven't worked hard to get where you are. But perhaps consider the things you've had handed to you that others didn't have.

To participate in this blog game, copy and paste the above list into your blog, and bold the items that are true for you.

Mostly because I'm bored. I know I've already done this, but I don't care ;P

Ten random things about me.....:

1. I'm a HUGE romantic.
2. I'm terrified of flipping backwards over my head, though I can (But not without a spotter standing next to me. They don't even have to touch me, just stand there!). Forward is okay.
3. I think that the womans body is amazingly beautiful. Much more so than a mans body.
4. My shoulders pop from years of gymnastics (people are surprised to find out that it's my shoulders and not a popping joint, such as knuckles, when they hear it)
5. I desperately want to leave the country
6. Even after a year, loving someone still scares me a little.
7. I hate being in debt or owing someone money
8. I'm ridiculously close to my family. It's one of the aspects of my life that I adore.
9. I dislike having a student under 8, though I'm really good at dealing with them.
10. I'm ashamed to admit that I watch the show Wife Swap when I'm home and it's on.

Hey all!
UCR is Dancing (the project that has been eating my life recently) is coming up! It will be at UC Riverside's University Theater $8 student/$10 general.

UCR Is Dancing is the follow up to a years worth of
study in choreography. Eight choreographers,
including myself, will be showing pieces, along with
dancing in the show.

I hope to see everyone there!! This is the last big
sha-bang before I graduate and I'm looking forward to
it.

This was the final project for a class where we learned how to choreograph for a camera (as opposed to a stage).

I didn't do the editing, but I danced!! And it kicks ass!!!

Giving/Getting

Double posted from myspace just for Liz!!

I don't know what it is about the colder weather, but I always get excited for christmas the minute it gets cold! Maybe because it always seems to stay hot right up until december and then december is just an awesome month for memories and happy feelings.

I was talking to a couple of friends aat school a bit ago and they were talking about giving gifts at christmas and how it's always this day of geting a lot more stuff that nobody really *needs*. A lot of overindulging going on when the things that you own already are plenty. I thought that made plenty of sense, but I also had to think of my own childhood too. I grew up with mass amounts of presents every year, mostly because my sisters and I were the *only* grandkids/nieces in the family. My mom was the only one to have kids. We got presents from our parents, but also the overspoiling from our grandparents and uncle mark. Looking back I don't feel that I was harmed by it, I don't feel like I'm the kind of person who feels like I deserve whatever I may want, but during the regular months I was never really spoiled either.

One of the christmases that i remember the most I was about four or five and a neighbor of ours ahd just run into some financial problems. Her husband wasn't working, she had four kids at home (the youngest the same age as me) and one child (the oldest) was severly retarded and living in a care facility. THe medical bills were high, living in SoCal was high and trying to do it all with a big family wasn't working. They weren't going to have christmas and just skip the holiday entirely. Mom talked to my sisters and I and asked if we would be okay with giving away the presents that were already bought for us. I know it wasn't everything because I do remember opening stuff, but it was quite obviously a smaller "loot!" Lol

Mom made a christmas dinner and bought all a bunch of coolers or heat boxes depending on what she needed and she and dad snuck out on christmas eve night. They put all of the wrapped presenst with to/from tags (all from Santa Lol) in large black bags and put all of the safely packed food into bags and left it on the front porch. Nobody ever told teh neightbors that it was us, but she and her family talked about it for quite awhile. They were really touched and it was awesome to knwo that I had helped to bring that much happiness to a family.

Similarly when we first moved to Murrieta the town was pretty small with a couple of fire and police departments. I remember mom going crazy in teh kitchen during november and december baking all different kinds of cookies and goodies. She'd bake something and then freeze it until right before christmas when our freezer was nothing but baked goods that none of us could thouch! My sisters and I would help sort out the cookies on trays making sure everything was defrosted and drive around to the fire and police stations handing out huge trays of goodies! We did that for years until the town got too big and we couldn't keep up with all fo the new people! Some of the officers would remember our family every year though! One time an officer called every McDonald (to/from tags would have The McDonald Family on them) in teh area until she reached us, just to get a recipe!
Another time mom thought someone got into our house and called the cops. The police who showed up remembered mom as the cookie woman!

After we stopped handing out cookies, mom got some names (from a church we used to go to) of some elderly ladies who didn't have family close to them. We'd go buy gifts for them every year, again from Santa, and deliver them at their house.

I'd like to start doing some of that again. Thinking about what April said about the over-gifting thing really makes sense. The main thing that I associate with christmas is this constant giving that we did for years. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the majority of gift giving within the family and instead extending it out into the community again.

In other news, my october has/is going by really fast. My weekends seem to be double booked like crazy and the weeks are zooming from school. Yikes!

Tagged by jbmcdragon (have no idea how to make a link and since she's the only one who will read this, I'm sure she'll tell me how at some point)

RULES: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks.

1. I dyed my hair purple--on accident--for a day.
2. When thihnking, I bite the inside of my cheek.
3. I twirl my hair constantly. You can tell my mood by how I twirl my hair.
4. Peppermint or Chamomile tea will calm me down the fastest.
5. If a person tries to force their point of view on me I will automatically get iriitated and take the opposite side out of pure spite, even if I know nothing of what their POV was. If a different person comes up to me later and begins to talk about the same thing, without insisting that I see the same way, I'll usually listen and find it really interesting.
6. When I don't have a really good book to read I'll turn to fanfiction. Usually whatever genre Jenna's been reading.
7. I can cross one eye and keep the other straight
8. If I'm not twirling my hair, I'll usually twirl Pixies ears...she doesn't seem to mind.
9. Guitar music is my favorite sound in the world. I'll stop doing things and listen for hours if Mary, dad or Uncle Mark start playing.
10. Most people think that I'm really shy. I still don't see it. I'm quiet, but can maintain a conversation with almost anybody.
